Man’s Best Friend

Traveling with dogs can bring about some challenges. First, we cannot take them to most places we want to visit. This includes all of the National Parks. We leave them in the trailer but usually have to shorten our activity in order to get back to them as we do not like to leave them alone too long. Frankly, it is inconvenient and a pain in the butt.

Next, we need to ensure they get plenty of exercise and do not get board. If they are board, they may want to get into things and destroy the trailer. They have already chewed up the fire extinguisher mount! But finding a decent place to walk isn’t always easy or we are strapped for time if we have sight seeing planned.

Then there is the clean up. Hair everywhere. Keeping the truck clean is a never ending job. And I have to sweep the trailer almost daily to keep up with the dirt and the hair. Then there are days like today when I took them for a hike .

We are staying at Fort Mccoy in Wisconsin. The campground is really nice and has a hiking trail so we took advantage of it today. Whenever I can I try and let them off of their leash to run around and act like dogs. They run in-and-out of the trees having such a great time. Today they managed to find the river!

By the time we headed back to the trailer they were wet, muddy, had burrs all in their fur, and were exhausted. But they had so much fun! It took about an hour and a 1/2 to pick the burrs off of them then they had to get bathed. What a mess! But it was worth seeing how happy they were roaming the woods and running.

In spite of all the hard work and hassle, I still think they are worth it. Their unconditional love and loyalty is the payoff.
