Our morning started with the pitter patter of rain drops as we were waking from our slumber. And it didn’t stop! It rained long and hard and didn’t let up until late in the afternoon. Many of our neighbors bugged out and when it was all said and done, the RV park looked like a small pond in areas. Now this would have been an excellent opportunity to read, journal, maybe some house keeping. However, that was not the case. I made us a nice breakfast of waffles and then we proceeded to lounge around the remainder of the day in our pj’s watching one of the three channels we were receiving.
At one point when we thought the rains had subsided, I headed to the showers. We were premature in our thinking. The thunder and lighting rolled in, a looming darkness fell over the campground and the rain pummeled the ground. The sky cleared and blue could be seen over the lake, as if nothing had happened. It was after 3 o’clock, but we decided to take advantage of the break in the weather.
Miner’s Castle
We headed into Pictured Rocks park to Miner’s Castle and Miner’s Beach. These were areas we saw from the boat tour the day before. Honestly, we didn’t want to get too far away or into a long hike as we were uncertain if the rain was coming back anytime soon. So visiting Miner’s Castle and the beach were just perfect. It was enough to stretch our legs and enjoy the fresh air.
We walked along the beach, skipping rocks on the lake or searching for unique rocks my cousin might appreciate (she collects rocks). Before it was much later, we drove to our next stop.
Munising Falls
Having a little bit of daylight left, we swung by Munising Falls. In fact, Munising has several waterfalls in the area. Had the weather not been so fickle today, we would have loved to visit some of the other waterfalls. This one was conveniently located and quick to access.
What a beautiful journey your on. It is so nice to be able to follow it with you. You are bringing back many memories of MN and Wisconsin. I still feel it is an area where the Higher Power is prevalent. I have not been to Lake Superior since 1979 when I ran in Grandma’s Marathon. Now a very famous road race.
