After our epic hike at Zion, we headed south to Vegas, baby! Since we lived here for seven years, we have made a great deal of friends, as well as having a niece and her family that live here; therefore, we just had to swing by to say hello. We were able to stay a little over a week and were, thankfully, hosted by our dear friends, the Hiltons. Our stay in Las Vegas was filled with a lot of visiting along with a bit of relaxation.
We were able to see the nieces and nephews which were a key objective as the baby turned a year this summer and Uncle finally got to meet her! Breakfast, lunch and dinner were shared with others. But it was the gathering hosted by the Stahls that was truly appreciated as many of our friends were able to stop and visit; saving us a lot of time. It was great to see the friends we did, but sad that we missed others.
I made an additional side trip to Houston for medical. It was my first plane ride since the COVID outbreak. It was definitely different as you have to wear your mask the entire trip (unless eating or drinking) and the airports were fairly quiet; especially Houston Intercontinental. It was actually eerie to see the airport so empty. The upside, my car rental was upgraded to a Mustang! And my friend Beth graciously put me up for the night. She and I always have good food and talk. Before heading back to the airport, I stopped and pampered myself with a pedicure which felt wonderful. Finally, I met a very kind couple who volunteer at the USO and had a great conversation. Hopefully on my next visit I will be able to meet up with them again.
Las Vegas stirred up lots of emotions and even some “hhhmmmmm?” moments as Al and I had a discussion about returning there to live as a couple of his former colleagues were enticing him with job opportunities. As appealing as those may be, we are still being called home to Michigan. Although when I think about winters there, maybe Las Vegas wouldn’t be so bad!!

Yes, Vegas would be a good place for you two to hang (to stay). Glad you were able to see old friends and for sure the baby.
