Knockin’ at the Door

Door County, Wisconsin that is.  Door County is in the Eastern peninsula of Wisconsin and is a great place to visit to really bring you back to nature.  Surrounded by Green Bay (the actual bay) and Lake Michigan, the peninsula is a haven for agriculture.  There are farm markets with fresh produce available.  And what better time than the fall to take advantage of the harvest; cherries, honeycrisp apples or pumpkins.

After a trip to the market, you can have your choice of activities such as hiking, biking, kayaking, shopping, eating, or just relaxing along the shore and watching the sun set.  And the quaint, historic towns such as  Ephraim, Egg Harbor or Fish Creek draw you in and welcome you.  Our sightseeing plans today were thrown off due to Cody taking off and getting injured.  We spent the better part of our day ensuring he received medical attention and was okay.  This has forced us to extend our stay one more day.  Oh darn!

We did manage to drive up Shore Drive this afternoon and visit the Anderson Warehouse which was originally built in 1895.  It is said that once the sailors arrived in the bay, they would sign the warehouse with the name of their ship and the dates they arrived, proving they made it through Death’s Door.  The tradition is carried on to this day and all are invited to sign the warehouse.  So I did!

Being surrounded by water, we decided to participate in an activity on the water.  We had the opportunity to go sailing on the Edith Becker tonight.  It was the first time either of us had been sailing.  We even took the chance to help out and hoist one of the sails.  The rest of the trip, we just sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed the sunset.  Another item checked off the bucket list!
