There are so many fun, off-the-wall places to see and experience and I want to take advantage of our time on the road to visit as many as we can. For instance, the Wall Drug has quite the marketing campaign. As you travel down I-90 in South Dakota, every mile or so you will see a sign advertising Wall Drug. You can get camping gear, new cowboy boots, ice cream, 5 cent coffee, and the list goes on.
Obviously, we had to stop! I wanted to see what this place was all about. And it was just exactly as the signs had advertised. There were shops within the shops and you can purchase just about anything your heart desires. Al found himself a t-shirt but we didn’t want to wait in line for the free coffee and donut they give to Veterans. On the road we headed.
Now Mitchell, South Dakota is a little town set in the heartland of the prairies. My last memory of Mitchell is when our car broke down here in 1999. But today we saw this town in a more favorable view as we toured the World’s only Corn Palace! Originally built in 1892, the Palace has been the center of the corn festival in Mitchell since. Every year in the fall the theme changes. These murals are made of several different types of corn along with other grains. The art is really beautiful and unique. Kudos to the artists and the workers who put so much time and effort into these creations. You can attend the festival every year in August!
What a fun place! I’m glad you stopped and got to explore and remember it in a better way☺️
The pictures made of corn and grains are really incredible! You are such a true adventurer! I Love you with all my heart!
