Like everyone during this unusual time, we are stuck in our “home” and unable to go out much. Aside from the occasional trip to the grocery, a walk around the local park, or my trips to MDA, we are trying to adhere to the rules and staying home. I wouldn’t say I am depressed about it, but I have been in a lull and haven’t felt much drive to blog as I guess there isn’t much to talk about. But then I remembered, I hadn’t shared about this neat little city, nestled in the hills of North Carolina: Asheville.
As we have been making our way across the country, one of the games we enjoy playing is envisioning our living in those areas. I will even go to the extent of checking homes for sale and prices. For the most part, this is just for fun. However, Asheville is one of the cities that I could seriously envision living in. First, it sits at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains and near the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, so you cannot argue against the beautiful scenery. Second, the vibe is that of artsy, folksy, vibrant, and young. Although a little on the liberal side for us, the city draws you in with the bistros, breweries and boutiques.
Finally, there is the history of which always captivates and draws me in like the Omni Grove Park Inn built in 1913 or the more popularly known, Biltmore Mansion. Opened in 1895, the luxurious mansion was the brilliant idea of George Vanderbilt after he visited and fell in love with Asheville. This 250 room mansion was the seat of wealthy; hosting all of the rich and famous of the day. The grounds and gardens are immaculately maintained. The estate boasts two other hotels for current guests (as the Biltmore is not open for public stay), a winery and restaurants. Asheville is a city worth exploring and enjoying. You will fall in love as well.
